Squirtle, to me, is that middle, in-between kind of pokémon. He doesn't grow particularly fast or slow, his moves are decent, and he's super cute. I mean, how can you not love a sunglasses wearing blue turtle with a squirrel-y tail? I can't say I've actually ever raised a Squirtle for longer than a few gym badges, but I enjoyed having him. Good water pokémon are hard to find, especially if one skips out on or doesn't know about/where to get the rods in the game. He'd be one of your only options in that case. I always struggle with finding a good water pokémon for my team, so if you are having a hard time picking one out, I suggest this well rounded little guy.

I love Wartortle. If this guy really lives for 10,000 years then..well..yay! Looking at his stats, Wartortle's HP is actually fairly low, as well as his attack; but if one is a defensive player then this guy is right for you! His speed is pretty low, but he is a turtle. His speed is made up for with defense, however, so even if he can't strike first he'll be able to take the hit. The problem with Wartortle, despite his higher defense and longevity, is his attack. Its not necessarily low, but it is on the lower end. This guy is still a good option and can take down even tough opponents, it just might take a little time and patience.

Despite the description of this guy, Blastoise is not a good choice against steel type, only because it won't be very effective. This is where this little trio starts to pick up some speed. He's not as fast as Venasaur, but pretty close. Defense shoots way up and makes up for a slower strike and lower HP, but in all honesty since his HP is fairly lower it may seem that he takes damage fairly regularly compared to other pokémon despite the high defense. His special and regular attack are a little better here, however so he can be a fighter. If you are going for Blastoise though, don't expect him to be as much of an offensive pokémon.
In summary, squirtle is, in a sense, the middle man. He is well rounded and grows steadily. Wartortle can be a little more difficult, but he learns a lot of good moves and defense starts to go up. Blastoise is definitely a defense pokémon, but is still better than a lot of water types out there. Despite his lower speed, he can still be a great pokémon if you don't mind striking second.
Not even a battle. Blastoise is the best!! :D Squirtle is really cute though.
